Xscape's LaTocha Scott: This Reunion Is Different "With All Four Of Us Coming Back Together"

The R&B original foursome last recorded together in 1998.

This year's Xscape reunion brought together all four original members of the popular '90s R&B group: Kandi BurrussTiny CottleTamika Scott, and LaTocha Scott. The last time this lineup recorded together was for the 1998 album Traces of My Lipstick, but Tiny, Tameka, and LaTocha reunited as Xscape in 2005 without Kandi and worked on a new album with singer Kiesha Miles that never saw the light of day.

Now, LaTocha says that this reunion is different because it goes back to the group's roots.

"The difference between this time coming together and the last time is we have all four original group members," she tells The Daily Dish. "Before, we were trying something different because I think Kandi was saying that she didn't want to come back to the group. So all of us were still in that we want to perform, we want to get back out there, we want to make music again [mode] and she just wasn't in that space anymore. So we got a couple of people that we knew but it didn't work out. Certain people are not meant to do certain things. Sometimes they think they wanna do it and then they don't. It's a lot of work that goes into being in a girl group. And instead of us having to fuss and argue, we just said, listen, this isn't working, let's try something else."

Some lingering past dramas had to be cleared up before Xscape could get everyone back together.

"And now, with all four of us coming back together, it's like we still have the history together," LaTocha says. "So it's more like you think about the memories of the past and then all of a sudden you come back together and it's like, oh my gosh, this is my sister, I remember we used to do this. We have stories. We have things that we can think about and also the fact that we're more mature now, it makes it a whole lot better."

She admits everyone was surprised by the outpouring from fans after they announced their reunion.

"I just think the fans really wanted this a lot more than what we were expecting, because after the announcement was made it was just mayhem. And it was a good mayhem, but everybody was excited — the fact that we came back together, that we put the past behind us, and so that's made all the difference."

The reunion does have its ups and downs, though. Watch the clip to see how the ladies are managing their schedule (and personality?) conflicts and check out these R&B OGs navigating a new life together on Xscape: Still Kickin' It, which premieres on November 5 at 9/8c.
